In this 3-day workshop Jai Sallay-Carrington, a Vancouver-based ceramic artist,  will lead the participants through building a human torso with an animal head using the slab-building technique. Participants will focus on body proportions, adding either clothing or a naked form, and achieving the details of the animal face, such as eyes, teeth and fur texture. Jai will guide attendees through shaping and assembling a torso, paying special attention to anatomical details that brings life and character to each piece. On the last day everyone will paint their figures with underglaze, and Jai will demonstrate how to carve into the surface to add more details onto the forms. The class offers creative freedom in designing either realistic or stylized torsos. Jai will go over your many options for surface treatments for before and after the firing.
